The Summer Institute offers students of various disciplines and professions a great opportunity to advance their knowledge in the field of addiction studies in an international environment.
The Institute is an intensive two-week summer programme that seeks to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the study of addiction and to promote opportunities for international networking among participants.

University of Stirling – Online Courses in Drug and Alcohol Studies 2009 – 2010
University Certificate in Drug and Alcohol Studies
The Certificate in Drug & Alcohol Studies begins in September each year.
The Course makes use of internet technologies (including: e-mail, on-line discussion groups etc.).
The total commitment is equivalent to 52 study days. The course may be taken over one or two years with a minimum of one module to be completed in any academic year and is offered in two modules:
Module 1-Policy & Practice and Module 2-Understanding & Evaluating Addiction Treatment.
Prospective students should note that successful completion of Module 1 is a prerequisite for Module 2.
Each module is subject to formal assessment with a 2,000 word essay plus a 2,000 word literature review required for Module 1 and a 5,000 word extended essay required for Module 2.
The Course is at undergraduate level. No formal qualifications are stipulated but students should have an appropriate qualification and/or relevant experience.

This innovative and unique programme is now in its second year.
The Provision of Health Care to People Experiencing Homelessness Programme offers professional development courses which address provision of healthcare by taking a collaborative approach which allows students to learn from one another and gain an understanding of the challenges that workers in other occupations face.
The aim is ultimately to greatly improve the quality of help that homeless people receive.
Courses aim to provide information both for professionals who are relatively new to the field of healthcare for people experiencing healthcare, or who have been working with homeless people for some time and wish to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Online CPD modules, 24 weeks, commencing October 2008
Due to demand Middlesex University now offer the opportunity to gain either an Advanced Diploma or PGCert in Dual Diagnosis via distance learning.
The course is divided in two modules:
Foundations in Working with Dual Diagnosis
The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the key issues in Dual Diagnosis while also reviewing and updating knowledge on Mental Health and Substance Misuse.
Assessment and Treatment in Dual Diagnosis
This couse will build on the previous module by equipping students with knowledge concerning the role of engagement, screening and assessment and deepen the students’ knowledge and understanding of effective evidence based interventions used in treatment.
